Guides / FearRP

What is FearRP?

Of all the rules in roleplay, FearRP is the one new players break first. It is also the simplest once it clicks: your character values their life, even when you do not. Here is what the rule means, and exactly where the line sits on Drill UK.

01 / The idea

Your character wants to live

You respawn. Your character does not know that. FearRP asks you to play every dangerous moment the way a real person would: a gun in your face is terrifying, three armed strangers surrounding you is not a fair fight, and no phone call is worth dying over. When a situation is hopeless, your character complies, because that is what people do.

The rule exists because the alternative ruins scenes. If every robbery ends with the victim swinging punches at three guns, no robbery ever means anything, and the players who set the scene up properly get nothing for it.

02 / The thresholds

Where the line sits here

Drill UK draws the line in three places, and they are worth memorising before your first tense scene:

  • Outnumbered three or more to one by armed players, you comply.
  • Unarmed, you comply in every situation. No exceptions.
  • A taser never trumps a gun. If a gun is on you, you comply, even if you are holding the taser.

The full wording sits in the rulebook's initiation section, alongside what counts as starting a fight in the first place.

03 / The mistakes

How new players break it

New players break FearRP in the same three ways. Fighting back while unarmed, because it works in other games. Counting a taser as an answer to a gun, when the rule says the gun always wins. And the classic: deciding the odds do not apply to you, throwing hands at a crew with three guns drawn because surrender felt like losing.

The reframe that fixes all three: complying is not losing, it is the scene working. The robbery you survive becomes a story, a grudge, and a reason for everything your character does next session. Rules like the new life rule exist for the same reason: death and defeat have to mean something for any of it to matter.

04 / The other side

What FearRP does not excuse

FearRP binds the aggressors too. Force still needs a story reason, threats and demands still come before triggers, and initiation rules still decide when a fight may start at all. Compliance is owed to a properly built scene, not to random deathmatch with extra steps. If someone abuses your compliance, play it out, then report it through the proper channels afterwards, never mid-scene.

05 / Practice

Learn it by living it

Reading the rule takes a minute; the instinct comes from play. Your first held-up-at-gunpoint moment will tell you everything, and on this server you will not face it alone, because you get placed with people from day one.
